Bali Marine Walk – An Experience to Remember

The Island of the Gods-few people who have visited Bali will disagree with the island’s tag line. From powdery white beaches to rugged shorelines, from desolate mountains to lush, green forest, the island features a stunning variety of landscapes. It is one of the most popular beach destinations in the world, and offers world class diving and surfing. For those who cannot get enough of the sun and surf, Bali is a haven, equally catering to water-sport-loving thrill seekers and those who just want to put their feet up and relax.

The waters of Bali are suitable for a wide range of activities from surfing and jet skiing to paragliding and deep sea fishing. One of the most popular activities here is diving. The shimmery blue waters off the coast of Indonesia’s most popular island are home to an amazing array of aquatic life, and one can spend hours exploring this underwater world. However, deep sea diving may not be for everybody, but thanks to the Bali Marine Walk, those who find diving a bit too adventurous or a bit too time consuming, need not miss out on the island’s most colourful spectacles.

The walk takes place on Lembongan Island. Those taking the Bali Marine Walk simply don a large open-ended helmet which is connected to an air tank. Then they climb down a ladder and walk along the
ocean floor. The air supply lasts about fifteen minutes. One can pay just for the walk or purchase a package which includes hotel transfer, boat ride to the island, a welcome drink, lunch and even an underwater photo. Visitors with heart ailments and lung problems are not allowed to go on the walk. For more details check their website.

The only difficulty when it comes to accommodation on the island is choosing from an assortment of Bali resort villas. The Alila Villas Uluwatu offers some of the most elegant Bali luxury villas. Situated on top of a windswept cliff, the hotel boasts breathtaking vistas of the ocean, something the hotel’s guests can look forward to when waking up to every morning.

Elephant Safari Park Of Desa Taro – A Bali Landmark

The Elephant Safari Park of Desa Taro was officially opened by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism in 2000, following three years of intense development. The park occupies a space of over two hectares, and is a member of the World Zoo Association, meeting stringent guidelines for animal care. Beautifully landscaped, the verdant park is surrounded by lush forests, and is widely considered the best elephant park in the world. The extensive facilities include a plush reception area and an information/resource centre where visitors can learn more about the park and the elephants living there. It also has a museum which contains an amazing collection of elephant related memorabilia and even the skeleton of a Woolly Mammoth, which is over 15,000 years old.

Visitors can get souvenirs at the well stocked gift shop. The products on sale are pachyderm-centric, and one can find elephant themed jewellery, clothes, carvings and even elephant and mammoth ivory (legally obtained). There is a restaurant with a seating capacity for around 200 people. The restaurant is adjacent to the lake, and patrons can enjoy the spectacular view while dining. Of course the main attraction here is the elephants and visitors will get an opportunity to observe elephants playing, bathing and even painting- some of these paintings can be bought at the gift shop. Visitors will also be able to touch, feed and ride the gentle giants. The safari park doubles as a sanctuary, and most of the elephants here have lost their habitat due to heavy deforestation in certain parts of the country.

The safari park is located in the village of Desa Taro, which is about half an hour north of Ubud. The park is open daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Visitors are required to pay an admission fee, and there is a separate fee for those who want to take an elephant ride. However, a special discount is offered for those who pay for the ride along with the admission fee. Tourists with time to spare should consider going on a moonlit safari, it is sure to be an experience to remember.
