Judo has fast caught up to being a popular sport in the United Arab Emirates, not only for the sports’ gentle nature as opposed to other types of martial arts but also because it lends to a balanced lifestyle that involves both self discipline and self defense.
Judo – a Japanese martial arts style necessarily means ‘the gentle way’ and is a defense rather than an attack form. Having started with only just two training centres in UAE, the Emirates now boasts of 16 such centres.
In fact the Judo Federation is attempting to make Judo and its related styles a part of the curriculum in schools throughout the Emirates. The Abu Dhabi Judo Grand Prix, being held for the fifth consecutive year in November 2013, is an ideal venue an occasion on which to gather and cheer for well known Judokas who are of National and International merit.
As Judo is an Olympic event as well, this Grand Prix marks a significant milestone as it is the first event of the circuit following the recently concluded Olympics held in London.
Having found many young Judokas who have gone on to bring fame and honour to the sport and to the country, the Grand Prix hosted by Abu Dhabi is a significant event in order to further boost the sport and garner enthusiasm for continuing the growth and development of Judo in the Emirates.
To this end, instilling a love and passion for the sport from an early age is important and there is a great interest in involving the youth of the nation in this sport. The Grand Prix event scheduled from the 22nd to the 25th of November 2013 will be held from 10am to 5pm and is an open event whereby the public can view the various levels of expertise and skill presented at the Grand Prix.
If you hope to visit the city during this time, make sure you visit the event atleast on one of the days.
