Subscribe to Events and Festivals BlogThe Emirates Airline Rugby Sevens is a thrilling event that draws in a record breaking number of fans from around the world who gather together in Dubai for over three days to be a part of the exciting super charged experience.
This event marks the second leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series. For 38 years the Emirates Rugby Sevens was held at the Al Awir Ground. However in 2008 a purpose built stadium which can move from a 5000 capacity to 50’000, appropriately named ‘The Sevens’ was built on the Al Ain Road, somewhat away from the city.
This move, far from dampening the crowd or event, further established the event and provided even more room for the fans to congregate. The entire stadium with its six pitches sees a great volume of action both off and on the pitch. Close to 120’000 fans stream in and out of the stadium over the course of 3 days of the event.
The event also encapsulates a rugby village with entertainment options, and various other attractions for the fans. Action time brings forth the best from the players and the fans as the entire stadium literally moves with pure rugby emotion. With various semi events such as the Veterans, Youth, Local Social, Gulf, Ladies and International Invitation tournaments being played at the same time, all six pitches are heavily in use during the main event.
The ‘Rugby Rock’ concert, usually held on the Friday and Saturday of the event, are hugely popular and allow for the jubilations of the crowd.
All in all if you are visiting Dubai during the period of November 28th – 30th 2013, then do take the opportunity of visiting this stunning event – which is open to the General Public and be a part of the action of the Emirates Airlines Rugby Sevens.
